AAA Arizona is seeking a Creative Services Supervisor/Art Director responsible for the visual identity for AAA Arizona’s print pieces, including Highroads magazine.
Key responsibilities include:
- Works with marketing team to develop and maintain design standards for the AAA Arizona brand and marketing pieces and ensures their consistency throughout all creative executions across all club departments/projects.
- Works with editorial team of Highroads magazine, directing design of the publication.
- Works with marketing team, directing design of direct mail, ads, and other marketing pieces.
- Works with marketing team to translate marketing objectives into creative strategies and campaigns.
- Manages creative projects from concept to completion, assigning projects to designers, managing traffic between departments, and regulary communicating with marketing team and other internal clients.
- Supports marketing in developing new collateral, marketing and promotional materials.
- Works in partnership with the editorial team and marketing team in overall planning and scheduling of AAA publications, including Highroads and Spotlight, and follows projects through the production process.
- With a clear understanding of print design trends and strategies, develops and maintains design strategy and standards for all publications.
- Oversees quality control of the finished product’s design, including the look and its synergy with the content.
- Reviews and approves all graphic designers’ choices, including photos, typography, fonts, layout, colors, size, etc. before sending to internal teams for review.
- Works with editors to create and maintain written production schedules, workflow procedures and design standards.
- Supervises day-to-day activities of Creative Services team, motivates, coaches and develops design team.
- Fosters a cooperative team environment and is responsible for assigning and proofing projects for adherence to graphic standards.
- Provides training to new employees.
- Work within department budget.
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
- 5 – 10 years’ experience in a similar role with supervisory experience.
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in magazine design is required.
- Expertise in InDesign (CS4), Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, Acrobat, and other industry-standard graphics programs.
- Must have Macintosh experience.
- Familiarity with printing and pre-flight processes.
- Solid project-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to efficiently handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent eye for color, page design and composition.
- Excellent oral and written commuication skills.
- Leadership abilities to foster cooperation, learning, creativity and excellence among team members.
- Ability to think creatively and “sell” concepts to clients and team members in a courteous, cooperative manner.
- Demonstrates a high level of initiative, effort and attention to detail with an eye on completing assignments efficiently and creatively.
- Ability to work with outside vendors, including printers and freelancers
- Necessary competencies include: Customer Focus, Business Acumen, Attention to Detail, Creativity and Innovation and Planning and Organizing.
