IABC Phoenix gave the gift of literacy this holiday season by donating 127 books, valued over $900, to the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix. The books, which were collected during Network Night on Dec. 13, ranged from children’s favorites Goodnight Moon and Corduroy to teen bestsellers like The Giver and The Witch of Blackbird Pond. The Boys & Girls Club will add the books to its learning center where employees and volunteers facilitate book clubs and other reading activities.
“We have many members who are struggling readers,” said Vanessa Velez, program manager with the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix. “We help them through fun and positive programming that encourages a love for reading. Thank you for inviting us to your Network Night and putting together such an awesome book drive.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix enables all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. To donate additional books or learn more about literacy-related volunteer opportunities with the Boys & Girls Club, please contact IABC Phoenix’s VP, Community Involvement Kim Grozek at kim.grozek@gmail.com.
