Building a Legacy: The Story of SRP

Salt River Project (SRP)

Salt River Project (SRP), created in 1903 from landmark federal reclamation legislation, is one of the nation's largest public power utilities and metropolitan Phoenix's largest raw water supplier. SRP's goal was to create a “flagship” publication explaining its history and providing overviews of the water and power businesses. Besides educating the public in one of the nation's fastest-growing areas about its water and power delivery systems, SRP also needed to educate the public, opinion leaders and government officials about its unique role in central Arizona. SRP is the only electric or water utility honored by the Library of Congress as a “Local Legacy” – documented as part of America's grassroots heritage.
