How long have you been a member of IABC?
I have been actively involved with IABC since graduating from Arizona State University in 2007.
What is your current position/company?
Currently, I am working as the Internal Communications Manager with the Apollo Group.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
I enjoy the fast pace, the interesting and talented people I work with and the variety of projects and challenges I work on every day.
What do you hope to gain from your membership/involvement with IABC?
My involvement with IABC has provided me with a strong network of peers and mentors, as well as lifelong friends. This next year, I am eager to build upon my leadership skills while continuing to network and learn from some of the best communicators in the Valley.
What words of advice do you have for young professionals?
Being a somewhat “young” professional myself, I strongly encourage young professionals to get involved with professional organizations, such as IABC, early and to begin networking with tenured professionals throughout the Valley. Don’t let anything discourage you from following your passions.
Who was/were your biggest professional influence(s)?
While attending Arizona State University, I had the privilege to work with Wilma Mathews, a long-time IABC Phoenix member and IABC Fellow, during my role as President of ASU’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and I established a tremendous relationship with her. Post college, I worked for a gentleman named Robert Colbert who was the best mentor and champion any young professional could hope to have. I know we’ll stay friends for a lifetime.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When not at work, you can find me spending time with the ones I love most – family and friends. I’m an avid outdoors-woman and enjoy hiking, mountain biking and fishing in this beautiful state we’re lucky to call home. In the summer months, you can often find me floating around my pool with a good book.
What destination do you want to travel to the most?
Right now, I am most excited for my upcoming vacation to a Hawaii – a first for me. Other than that, I’d like to travel to Europe again and visit the beautiful countries and enjoy the cuisine (I’ve recently become somewhat of a foodie!).
