How long have you been a member of IABC?
I joined as a student at ASU in 2002 (their very first chapter). After that, I came back as a volunteer in 2005 to help out with edit express and have been involved with the chapter ever since.
What is your current position/company?
I am currently a Product Manager in the Marketing department at TruWest Credit Union. That’s a fancy way of saying I am a product leader for all our loan products and I write and edit most of our marketing materials. I’m also responsible for purchasing all the media and working with various media outlets to develop cause-marking sponsorships for TruWest.
What do you hope to gain from your membership/involvement with IABC?
I am hoping to build more professional relationships. I get so caught up in my job that I rarely take the time to get out there and meet the great communications professionals we have in this chapter. There’s so much for me to learn about marketing, communications, media, etc. beyond what I have learned in my current job, and I think IABC is a great avenue for that.
Who was/were your biggest professional influence(s)?
I’d have to say my current boss (and, no, I don’t think she’s going to read this, so I’m not trying to suck up). She has been my boss since the end of 2006 and is a wonderful mentor. She recognized the strength of our marketing team and helped us realize our potential. I don’t think I would be the marketing professional I am today if it weren’t for her.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time? What’s that? If I’m not at work, I am either working out with my husband and our personal trainer, cooking, going for a run or taking care of things around the house. I love to cook and my husband and I are foodies, so we spend a lot of time enjoying food and wine with friends.
What destination do you want to travel to the most?
Internationally, there are so many places to see that it would be hard to narrow it down, but Italy, the South of France and Greece are definitely up there on my list! A little closer to home, I’d love to go to Boston, Seattle, Chicago and New York.
